Prosecutors secured the return of stolen BTC after a hacker voluntarily sent back funds taken via phishing from assets seized in an illegal gambling platform raid.
Gwangju prosecutors in South Korea recovered about $21.4 million in stolen Bitcoin following a voluntary return by the hacker. The cryptocurrency, originally seized during a gambling platform raid, was stolen in August through a phishing incident when an investigator entered a seed phrase. Authorities had blocked related exchange transactions, leading to the stolen BTC being returned. The recovered assets are now stored securely in a domestic exchange, and investigations into the hacker’s identity are ongoing.
